Xanthelasma
Xanthelasma
Xanthelasma are raised lesions on the eyelids and surrounding skin, appearing yellow or dirty white in color, known as papules or plaques. These lesions contain fat cells and inflammatory cells. A significant number of patients exhibit imbalances in blood lipid (fat cell) levels, although xanthelasma can also occur with normal lipid levels. The condition typically causes cosmetic rather than functional complaints. The lesions are persistent and tend to grow once formed. Treatment involves laser therapy in suitable cases and surgical intervention for lesions that are not amenable to laser treatment due to location or size.
