Eyelash Disorders
Eyelash misdirection towards the surface of the eye, involving the eyelid margin or only the eyelashes themselves, is termed trichiasis. When there is an excess growth of lashes behind the normal lash line, causing them to touch the eye surface, it is referred to as distichiasis. In both conditions, contact and irritation of the eye surface by the lashes lead to symptoms such as discomfort, tearing, and redness. Patients often mistakenly alleviate symptoms temporarily by plucking the lashes. Early management includes the use of lubricating eye drops to reduce irritation. Treatment options may involve laser or radiofrequency ablation of lash roots, or surgical methods.
