Treatment of Chalazion
Hordeolum and Chalazion
Hordeolum is an infectious abscess of the eyelid gland, typically occurring in the area of the eyelash follicles. Treatment involves antibiotic drops and warm compresses, with excellent response to medical therapy. Surgical intervention is considered for patients who do not respond to drug treatment or when the lesion is cosmetically intolerable.
A chalazion develops due to the non-infectious accumulation of glandular secretions caused by the blockage of eyelid gland ducts. In cases where lesions do not regress, steroid injections into the lesion or surgical drainage may be necessary.
